談到052D型驅逐艦的部署，曹衛東指出，同型艦艇數量較少時，放在一起使用可提高效率。但未來驅逐艦的發展，「仍需建更大型的飛彈驅逐艦」。如建造萬噸級的飛彈驅逐艦，搭載更多武器，航程也更遠。此外，也應增加驅逐艦數量。

曹衛東認為，與美軍「伯克級」驅逐艦相比，「中華神盾」仍有一段落差。052D型驅逐艦的排水量，與美軍「伯克級」驅逐艦相比還有2000噸到3000噸的差距，裝載的飛彈數量也較少。

解放軍已有3艘052D型飛彈驅逐艦服役，均被部署到南海艦隊。052D型首艦昆明艦2014年3月21日服役，舷號172號；長沙艦2015年8月12日服役，舷號173；合肥艦2015年12月12日服役，舷號174。



日前，網友曝光一系列照片，大連造船廠內出現最新一艘052D型驅逐艦。從照片中看，該艦停靠在港口，艦體已成型，正在安裝桅桿和艦艉設備，船身上已經塗刷了舷號175。







外界猜測，第4艘052D型驅逐艦即將服役。曹衛東分析，艦艇通常塗裝、噴舷號後，會進行海試、測試動力及武器裝備系統，如果符合要求，就將交付海軍。這也意味新一艘052D型「中華神盾」艦離服役不遠了。
